Experience Beethoven’s mighty ‘Emperor’ concerto alongside the serenity of his Fourth Symphony. Ashkenazy conducts in this Beethoven celebration.
With the ‘Emperor’, Beethoven brought new drama to the piano concerto form. Grand and flourishing, and ultimately triumphant, this is music to rouse the spirit. It’s sobering to think, though, that by this point Beethoven was too deaf to play it himself. The Fourth Symphony is graceful, even lighthearted, and makes a beautiful contrast.
