Ukrainian conductor Kirill Karabits leads the orchestra in inspiring performances of Brahms and Beethoven.

The soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.4 is not the usual heroic figure, the one against the many. Instead, the piano is poet, leading the orchestra with serene confidence. Soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is renowned for his Beethoven playing, having recorded all of the composer’s piano music with his trademark fluidity and finesse.

Brahms’ Symphony No.2 also looks inward. The ‘pastoral’ sequel to his stormy First was written on a holiday in the country, and the sunny skies of summer shine through this music. At its heart is a serenade of poignant beauty but even this is swept aside in a blazing finale.

‘‘The sound of the Bavouzet fingers is distinctive. It is searching, penetrating, imaginatively fired, and endlessly curious...’’ - The Times, UK
