Queensland Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to masters of their craft.

While it might seem like an unlikely combination, tradesmen have been the inspiration for music for centuries. Lortzing’sZar und Zimmermann (Tsar and Carpenter), is a comic-opera set in shipyards. Max, the hero of Weber’sDer Freischütz, is a forester and marksmen. Wagner’s Die Meistersinger features the 16th century Meistersinger (Master Singers) guild, an association of amateur artists who are master craftsmen. Great tradespeople – like classical musicians - can tell you the story of where they learned their craft, with many treasuring their tools (and instruments), often passed down from generation to generation.

To celebrate the shared craftsmanship in music, trades and indeed any pursuit that demands time and dedication, Queensland Symphony Orchestra presents a special music event:Tradies and Artists – Music by Masters of their craft, celebrating the joy of creativity with masterfully crafted music inspired by master craftsmen.

Hosted by the master craftsman of words Guy Noble, and conducted by Dane Lam,Tradies & Artists will be held on Sunday 14 October at 11.30am in the Concert Hall and promises to be a diverse and fascinating Sunday morning of music.

Be charmed by works from generations past and bring along your friends and family (and your favourite brickie, chippy or sparky) for a morning of well-constructed orchestral greatness featuring works from Rossini, Britten, Strauss, Mozart, Wagner, Weber, Copland, Lortzing and Mussorgsky.
