Conductor Alondra de la Parra
Soloist Nemanja Radulovic, Violin
Ibarra Sinfonia No.2, 'Las Antesalas del Sueño'
Tchaikovsky Concerto in D for Violin and Orchestra
Beethoven Symphony No.6 in F (Pastorale)
Inspired by surrealism, pounding piano chords combine with darkly murmured strings, brass and percussion at the start of Ibarra’s theatrical Sinfonia. Savour Tchaikovsky's Concerto’s tunefulness and breathtaking virtuosity in which the violin is, ‘pulled about and beaten black and blue.’ Admire the lovely flute and violin exchange in the second movement and sit back for the onslaught of gypsy, kick-up-your- heels vivacity in the volatile Trepak derived finale. The concert ends with the audience favourite: Beethoven’s ‘Pastorale’ Symphony. In the 19th century, it conjured up images of the countryside, in the 20th century it was associated with Disney’s Fantasia – but in all eras, it’s music of breathtaking beauty.
