When cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan debuted with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the LA Times said ‘his command of the instrument is extraordinary’.

He has also been described as ‘dazzlingly brilliant’ (The Strad) and ‘nothing short of magnificent’ (San Francisco Chronicle). You’ll see why in this amazing concert featuring two major works for cello. A theme and variations consists of a series of variations on a simple tune (like Tchaikovsky’s beautiful Variations on a Rococo Theme) but in the hands of Richard Strauss, the cello and orchestra will conjure up the famous story of Don Quixote, the nobleman who deludes himself into thinking he is a knight.

The Friday morning concert also features Beethoven's Egmont Overture, while the Saturday evening concert features Haydn’s Symphony No.104, both conducted by audience favourite Giancarlo Guerrero.
