BBC Music Magazine described Amy Dickson as one of the world’s best classical saxophonists both past and present and by the end of this evening, we know you'll agree.
Conductor André de Ridder
Saxophone Amy Dickson
PROGRAM:
Gershwin Porgy and Bess Symphonic Picture for Orchestra (arr. Robert Russell Bennett)
Glass Violin Concerto No.1 (arr. Amy Dickson)
Debussy La Mer
Ravel Bolero
In order to play her own arrangement of Philip Glass’ hypnotic Violin Concerto, with its endless stream of notes, Amy had to teach herself the art of circular breathing – exhaling whilst simultaneously inhaling!
This is not the only showstopper of the night – we’ll also present a line-up of all your favourites from Gershwin’s famous opera Porgy and Bess (including the immortal ‘Summertime’) plus Debussy’s glorious Impressionist sound-painting of the sea (La Mer). Finally, we’ll send you out of the concert hall with the most famous rhythm in classical music history – Ravel’s Bolero!
