Taking place on Saturday 27 June from 10am – 1pm, kindergarten and primary school-aged children can take part in the MSO’s activity-filledKids Marathon featuring interactive music-making and stories from different countries and cultures across time.
The Kids Marathon begins with a musical acknowledgment of country, recognising Australia’s first people reaching back over 40 thousand years and then ends with a look at Holst’s journey into the universe withThe Planets.
The event will feature conducting workshops, drawing to music sessions, instrument making as well as musical interludes and short interactive concerts, alongside popular MSO programs Jams for Juniors and Classic Kids. Downloadable activity sheets and a specially-designed musical adventure map can be accessed for free from the MSO website.
Co-hosted by conductor Benjamin Northey, comedian Scott Edgar
(Tripod) and educator and musicianThea Rossen, the Kids Marathon will feature guest artists throughout the event including indigenous singerJess Hitchcock (Short Black Opera) who will perform the musical acknowledgement of country and lead a sing-a-long workshop, andSarina Walter
who will guide little viewers through engaging musical activities.
