In a first for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Education Week will inspire, delight, inform and challenge audiences and participants across a broad range of musical performances.

The week will culminate in an Open Day at Perth Concert Hall on Sunday 28 June featuring a range of events and activities that will give the community a chance to get closer to their Orchestra.

The week of events will provide opportunities for students and adults of all ages to enjoy and participate in performances in a variety of settings from small chamber ensembles to a larger than life symphony orchestra.

The program includes:
The Composition Project provides emerging composers with the opportunity to develop their skills in a professional environment by writing an original composition for a chamber ensemble and a performance of their works in front of a studio audience.

The Sound of Picture Books A collaboration between WASO and The Literature Centre to bring picture books to life through music. This year the focus is on Matt Ottley and Danny Parker’s award-winning picture book Parachute. These multidisciplinary workshops are a dynamic and unique way for students to experience literature, visualart, music and drama in one setting.

Rhythm in Your Rubbish A saw that plays duets with the cellos, bottles that play flutes – this is no regular concert!Platypus Theatreactors take itemsyou might consider junk and transform them into working musical instruments to join WASO Orchestra in concerts for primary school students, with all the live action projected onto a screen above the stage.
