Following a meeting on Tuesday 2 June, 2020 and in consultation from the Company’s Board of Directors, West Australian Ballet prepares to return to full contact rehearsals, public activities and small-scale performances hosted safely and in line with the Phase 3 Government requirements, within the West Australian Ballet Centre.
West Australian Ballet applauds the leadership of The Honourable Mark McGowan MLA, Premier of Western Australia and his State Government in their action during the COVID-19 pandemic and announcing Phase 3 of their COVID-19 Recovery plan. Phase 3 will allow a small audience to be hosted in Studio One of the West Australian Ballet Centre.
West Australian Ballet will now host the following activities and events at the West Australian Ballet Centre;
- CoVid Lab; nine performances 17 June to 27 June 2020
o A creative showcase of solos and duos created by our dancers to one of four set music tracks and with physical distancing considered in choreography. Following a solo and/or duo performance, a workshop ‘twist’ will take place for approximately one hour.
- Genesis; nine performances 30 July to 8 August 2020 (rescheduled from March 2020)
o The Company’s annual creative showcase sees dancers choreograph new works on their fellow dancers, with full production lighting and music in use at the West Australian Ballet Centre. Each of 12 works created in February/early March 2020 were filmed and presented free via thewest.com.au after the cancellation of the planned March season.
o Previous ticket purchasers to the cancelled Genesis season previously planned for March 2020 will be offered a priority booking period prior to public release of tickets.
- Adult Ballet Classes
o West Australian Ballet are in the process of confirming that some Adult Ballet Classes will resume in Studio Four at the West Australian Ballet Centre from week commencing Monday 8 June, 2020. This will be communicated to regular Adult Ballet Class attendees and via West Australian Ballet’s Facebook account.
- External Building Hirers
o West Australian Ballet are in the process of confirming that Studio Four at the West Australian Ballet Centre can be hired to the community for workshops and activities from Monday 8 June, 2020. This will be communicated to regular hirers of the space prior to Monday 8 June, 2020.
West Australian Ballet will have strict procedures for the general public entering the West Australian Ballet Centre including social distancing, temperature checks, contact tracing, and face masks and sanitiser available. All West Australian Ballet staff have also undertaken the Federal Department of Health’s online course in Infection Control Training relating to COVID-19 and the West Australian Ballet Centre has the Phase Three COVID Safety Plan certificate.
The Company now notes that the award-winning return season of Dracula, is planned to be presented at His Majesty’s Theatre in September but await the timely release of Phase 4, as well as Government advice on audience capacity at the venue.
