Leah Purcell’s powerful retelling of Henry Lawson’sThe Drover’s Wifeclaimed the night’s top awards, winning Best Mainstage Production, Best Direction for Leticia Caceres’ stunning work, Best New Australian Work and Best Score or Sound Design by THE SWEATS.
Our other big winner of the night was Judy Davis’Faith Healer, with each of the production’s three actors recognised with awards – Colin Friels won Best Male Actor in a Leading Role, while Alison Whyte and Pip Miller were awarded Best Female and Male Actor in a Supporting Role respectively.
The other major winners of the night included Sport for Jove’s production ofAntigone, which dominated the independent theatre categories and took home Best Independent Production andthe Hayes Theatre’s Little Shop of Horrors won Best Production of a Musical and Best Performance by a Female and Male Actor in a Musical for its stars Esther Hannaford and Brent Hill.
Marta Dusseldorp won Best Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance inGloriaat Griffin Theatre Company.
The annual Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Judi Farr for her exceptional five decades of stage work
