September Sneak Peeks

International engagement, especially in our local region, is increasingly on our radar. So this month we’d like to remind our readers that deadlines are approaching for two grants programs targeting culture and arts that give organisations an opportunity to engage more deeply with the Asian region. There are some fabulous performances lined up this month.

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra performs theEroica Symphony by Beethoven—not the only composer to suffer horrifying deafness, as it happens. The Australian Chamber Orchestra in a moving collaboration with Bell Shakespeare, celebrates the remarkable Smetana, performing String Quartet No.1 which maps musically his descent into silence.

It’s a great month for partnerships.

We also look forward to an exciting collaboration—this time between Malthouse Theatre and Victorian Opera—in a brand new Australian opera,The Riders, based on Tim Winton’s Booker-nominated classic.

And speaking of opera, OperaQ and Brisbane Festival join forces to bring the latest opera from the iconic composer Philip Glass—The Perfect American(Walt Disney), commissioned to mark his 75th birthday.

These are just a few of the majors’ springtime highlights in September. We hope everyone shakes off their winter blues and gets out there.

Kind regards,
