Active community musicians, aged 25+ from all over Western Australia, including Vasse and Albany, have the opportunity to sit side-by-side with WASO musicians to create the Rusty Orchestra.
The program is a partnership between WASO and Healthway promoting the Act-Belong-Commit message, designed to engage and develop community musicians, encouraging a continued connection to orchestral playing while keeping mentally active and building on their established skills.
Healthway Chief Executive Officer Susan Hunt PSM said “This is a unique opportunity for community musicians to connect with one another, share their joy of music, and through the Act-Belong-Commit message learn about the importance of good mental health and wellbeing.”
A highlight of Education Week+, the program culminates in a free public performance at Perth Concert Hall on Sunday 16 June at 5pm featuring Sibelius’ Finlandia, Prokoviev Montagues and Capulets, Shostakovich 5 and selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker suite, with Peter Moore as conductor. Audiences will also be able to enjoy Act-Belong-Commit wellbeing and mindfulness activities prior to the concert, as well as take away musical journals to continue their own journey long after the performance.
This program is delivered by WASO’s award winning Education and Community Engagement program and promotes a lifelong journey with WASO and the joy of music!
