Queensland Theatre Co waltzes out with Matildas

Queensland Theatre Company celebrated at the Queensland Matilda awards held last Monday night (10 March) with 10 out of a possible 17 Matildas going to artists for work produced with Queensland Theatre Company including best new play 1001 Night.

Five Gold Matildas are awarded annually for outstanding work in any area of the professional theatre industry. In 2013 winners included Barbara Lowing for her body of work including QTC’sThe China Incident and Christen O’Leary for her performance as Judy Garland in QTC’s production ofEnd of the Rainbow. Andrea Moor’s direction of QTC’s production of Venus in Fur was also recognised with a gold Matilda.

There are also 12 Silver Matilda awards.The QTC production of 1001 Nights was not only awarded best new play, its creative team attracted a further three silver Matildas for best direction, Michael Futcher, best male lead, Dan Crestani, and best technical design, Phil Slade.

Libby Munro won Best Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance in QTC’sVenus in Furand Hayden Spencer won best male actor in a supporting role for his performance inEnd of the rainbow.
