It sits between the Queensland Ballet’s Junior and Pre-Professional Program, providing a clear training pathway for the next generation of professional ballet dancers.

The Senior Program replaces Queensland Ballet and Kelvin Grove State College’s involvement with the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE), which has been in place since 1987.

The inaugural Senior Program students will be considered full-time students of Kelvin Grove State College. Therefore, students are eligible to receive the Queensland Certificate of Education and an Overall Position (tertiary entrance ranking) at the end of Year 12.

Budding dancers from all over Australia, as well as international students, can apply for the Senior Program. These students would be helped by a Homestay Coordinator at Kelvin Grove State College to find a placement from their pool of approved homestay families.

Queensland Ballet will take up to 40 students for its Senior Program—20 students in both years 11 and 12.

And they’ll be busy. As well as completing face-to-face senior academic studies, they’ll have four hours of dance training dance training per day, Monday to Saturday, at Queensland Ballet’s home in West End (the Thomas Dixon Centre).

Auditions for the 2015 Senior Program will be held in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in August and September.

The audition panel includes members Queensland Ballet Artistic staff, as well as Associate teachers. Artistic Director Li Cunxin will oversee the Senior Program, with supervision by Director of Training Christian Tátchev.
