Opera Leipzig has purchased the co-production—and the same production will also be presented by San Diego Opera in October this year. It will then have been presented in Australia (2013), New Zealand (2015), Europe and America (2016).

Opera Queensland’s artistic director Lindy Hume, designer Dan Potra and lighting designer Matt Marshall have been in Leipzig for rehearsals, with Lindy and Matt staying until opening night, although Dan has now returned to Sydney to oversee his design for Turandot for Opera Australia’s Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.

The partnership in Leipzig all began about four years ago when Lindy and Dan showed theCinderella designs to Opera Leipzig's Director of Opera, Franziska Severin.

The pair then created a new production of Don Pasquale for Opera Leipzig in 2014, which was very popular. Franziska then invited Dan and Lindy to return for another production in Leipzig in 2016, and began discussions with Opera Queensland and New Zealand Opera about returning with La Cenerentola.

So, while the cast is from Opera Leipzig, the artisans of Opera Queensland and New Zealand Opera's workshops and wardrobes are represented in the scenery and costume manufacture, and OperaQ/NZO stage management documentation is being used by their colleague counterparts in Leipzig.

In October this year in San Diego, one of the original Opera Queensland cast, Egyptian bass Ashraf Sewailam, will again sing the role of Alidoro.
