A further 100 cinemas will screen the production in Europe over the coming few months, 22 in Canada on 27 September and about 20 in the US in September and November.

It will play on Australian and New Zealand screens in October. Altogether almost 400 cinemas around the world have booked a screening.

The screening is 2 hours 20 minutes including one 15-minute interval, and is performed in Italian with subtitles.

The Handa Opera production of Puccini's masterpiece for Opera Australia takes place over the waters of the Sydney Harbour on a magnificent floating stage.

A Japanese bamboo forest and giant sun and moon—both 12 metres wide—rise from the water to hang above the stage against a backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

The distributor, CinemaLive, provides the entertainment industry with direct live access, or recorded content, into cinema locations and big screens around the world. It can distribute to over 70 countries worldwide and has offices in London and Sydney, since establishing in late 2008.
