North America beckons the ACO

The first concert is scheduled for this Thursday 13 March at the Banff Centre in Banff, Canada.

Artistic Director, Richard Tognetti, will be workshopping four new pieces during a creative residency at Banff from 12–19 March. These will contribute to his new major work, with a working title ofMountain.

Three of the four new pieces will be performed at one of the concerts in Banff.

Another workshop will be held in Chicago with the Civic Orchestra which is the only training orchestra affiliated with a major orchestra in the US.

The musicians are post-collegiate and pre-professional, and play at a very high standard. The workshop will include Q&A sessions, side by side readings, and will culminate in a performance on 20 March.

ACO Underground is also travelling and will do two sets: one at Banff and the other at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. It will be the first time it has performed overseas.

Its set stretches from Bach to Stravinsky, Nirvana to Nine Inch Nails.

Founder and renowned violinist and singer, Satu Vänskä, will direct the performance.

She'll be joined by bass guitarist Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes), guitarist Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil) and Jacob Greenberg on piano, as well as Tognetti.
