AMPAG congratulates Wesfarmers finance director, Terry Bowen, who has been appointed chairman of WA Opera.

He replaces Warwick Hemsley, who remains on the board after four years at the helm. Previously co-Deputy Chair, Mr Bowen has been on the Board for four years.

He said he was delighted to accept the position of Chairman and looked forward to working with the General Manager, Carolyn Chard, and the company leading toward the 50th anniversary in 2017.

Mr Bowen commended Mr Hemsley for his inspiring leadership of the company during his term as Chairman.

‘Warwick steered the company through a number of ground-breaking partnerships including a new production ofElektra with ThinIce, Opera Australia and the Perth International Arts Festival and the international collaboration ofOtello with Cape Town Opera, New Zealand Opera, three Australian opera companies and the Festival.’

Mr Bowen brings a wealth of experience to the position of Chairman. In addition to his role with Wesfarmers, Mr Bowen is a director of Gresham Partners Holdings Ltd and a number of Wesfarmers Group subsidiaries. He is also on the Advisory Board of Curtin University’s Business School and recently joined the Board of Scotch College (WA).

Other Board changes

Julian Burt has been appointed to the board. Mr Burt is a director of Metze Pty Ltd, a manufacturing business specialising in the fabrication of drilling technology, and holds a number of director and community roles.

Andrew Pascoe has been appointed as co-Deputy Chair of the Board, joining Catherine Ferrari in that position.
