A snapshot of trends from a forthcoming Australia Council analysis of the performing arts, due in August, shows the growth in paid opera attendances was up by 34 per cent in 2012, as reported in The Sydney Morning Herald earlier this week.
Combined box office income also increased by $28 million to $203 million, with all artforms except theatre reporting increases.
Australia Council CEO Tony Grybowski said the social media figures were an exciting sign of the evolving nature of audience engagement with 308,000 people signed up to be friends of followers of the major companies via their social media channels.
