Malthouse Theatre update

The Malthouse – home of Malthouse Theatre – will be temporarily closed to the public until further notice. This heartbreaking decision has been made following the advice of State Government health authorities to cease public gatherings of more than 500 people.

While our individual theatres hold fewer than 500 people respectively, we have made the decision to close as a precautionary measure to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Malthouse Theatre has cancelled or postponed all Comedy Festival at The Malthouse performances. We have also postponed all performances of Grey Arias and Macbeth (This Ignorant Present) until further notice. We are currently looking at available times later this year to reschedule these performances.

The cafe, bar and foyer spaces will not be available to the public while we are closed, and we remind our staff, artists, and audiences to stay mindful of the advice given by government health authorities.

We will be in contact with ticket buyers in the coming days to offer a refund or the option to keep their ticket for a rescheduled performance. We will provide the opportunity for ticket buyers to support the artists that were performing in Comedy Festival at The Malthouse by forgoing their refund. The Box Office will be available for contact by phone or email, but we ask for everyone’s patience and understanding during this busy time.

Malthouse Theatre is committed to everyone’s safety and well-being. We are incredibly saddened to close our doors but we know that it is the right decision to minimise risk in these unprecedented times. We sincerely apologise to all audiences and artists for the disappointment caused. We are working hard to explore options to continue creating art and artist opportunities while the building is closed to the public.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we can't wait to reopen our doors and stages soon!

Malty xx
