Last week, Bangarra were welcomed into the town of Roebourne, WA by local Yindjibarndi, Ngarluma, and Banjima Elders, as part of our commitment to community exchange and outreach during their Regional Tour. They hosted workshops with 125 young people across the Pilbara, and with the generous support of The Balnaves Foundation, over a hundred Elders, community leaders, and youth from the Pilbara were able to attend their performance of Bennelong at Red Earth Arts Precinct.
They are proud to have brought the story of Bennelong to Western Australia this month, and thankful to have been met by sold-out houses and standing ovations across the state. Their Regional Tour continues this week, as they bring Bennelong
to Newcastle, Port Macquarie, and Dubbo.
Created by Artistic Director Stephen Page in 2017, Bennelong explores the life of one of history’s most iconic Aboriginal figures. Woollarawarre Bennelong was a senior man of the Eora people, who led his community to survive a clash of cultures. Through striking dance language, soul-stirring soundscapes and exquisite design, Bangarra unpacks Bennelong’s legacy and its reverberation through contemporary Australian life.
