August Sneak Peeks 2017

​Opera has a strong presence this month. Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performs Massenet’s Thaïs, and in a rare double bill, State Opera South Australia teams Puccini’s comedic Gianni Schicchi with Manuel de Falla’s impassioned La Vida Breve. Opera Queensland will astonish audiences with Mozart Airborne, and tickets have already sold out to the second TSO and Opera Victoria collaboration for 2017—Carmen.

Queensland Ballet’s La Fille Mal Gardée—afrothy confection set in the 1950s French countryside—will delight fans, while sparks will fly at the QSO in the stand-off between brother and sister prodigies Karin Lechner and Sergio Tiempo under Alondra de la Parra’s masterly direction.

Belvoir stirs the mix with HIR, a comedy about America, war, money and gender, featuring Helen Thomson. Black Swan Theatre company lures audiences into a booby-trapped plot in the award-winningSwitzerland. For battles of a different kind, State Theatre Company SA presents a bold new production ofMacbeth featuring the work of the company’s new Creative Ensemble.

There is plenty to fire you up in this, the last weeks of winter.
