A standing ovation in NYC

The Australian Ballet’s 2019 New York City tour has been a wonderful success. They began their short season at the legendary Joyce Theater last Wednesday night with a Gala Program and then performed a 7-show season of works by three of our resident choreographers, taking our final curtain call on Sunday evening before heading home to Australia.

After experiencing the world-premiere of Tim Harbour's Chairman Dances, Stephen Baynes’Unspoken Dialogues and Alice Topp'sAurum, full-house audiences dabbed away tears and jumped to their feet for a full standing ovation (a rare tribute at The Joyce we’re told).

A special thank you goes to our friends at The Joyce Theater whose generous support through the Rudolf Nureyev Prize for New Dance led to the creation ofAurum.

We were delighted by the warm reception and the opportunity to showcase our creative talent. We enjoyed catching up with familiar faces from the American dance community (including some who dance regularly with our company) as well as our loyal supporters who accompanied us from Australia and met with us in New York.

"Our dancers showed the power of our company with extraordinary dancing, dramatic artistry and unique Aussie can-do excitement. Each piece built from the other and the audience response was heartfelt and so rewarding."
