5 winners for three Sidney Myer awards

The Sidney Myer Performing Arts awards were announced last night (20 March 2014). With five winners for three awards, judges clearly found the decisions difficult.

Playwright Daniel Keene was joint winner of the Individual Award. He most recently worked with the Australian Defence Force in collaboration with the Sydney Theatre Company onThe Long Way Home, due to play at Malthouse from 27–29 March. His co-winner was composer Elena Kats-Chernin, with both winning $25,000.

Circa picked up the $80,000 Group Award while Multicultural producer and promoter Mohindar Dhillon and CEO of Multicultural Arts Victoria Jill Morgan jointly won the Facilitator’s Award (receiving $10,000 each).

The annual Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards pay tribute to excellence in drama, comedy, dance, music, opera, circus and puppetry.

They were established in 1984, by trustees of the Sidney Myer Fund, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Sidney Myer, a passionate advocate of the arts.
