AMPAG congratulates Li Cunxin, who last week was named as Queensland’s Australian of the Year 2014. Li is the Queensland Ballet's Artistic Director.
He has been celebrated for his autobiography, Mao’s Last Dancer, which traces Li’s journey from poverty in rural China to becoming a world-renowned principal ballet dancer.
His story of hardship, perseverance and success is an inspiration to everyone, both dancers and non-dancers alike.
Queensland Ballet CEO Anna Marsden said the award is richly deserved. ‘Li's passion for dance is infectious, and he is inspiring the whole community.’
The announcement comes amid Li’s sell-out debut season as Queensland Ballet's Artistic Director.
‘The encouragement given to me in the past year has been fabulous, and I am thrilled that my dreams for this wonderful Company have resonated so deeply with the community,’ he said.
