We are deeply concerned that the Prime Minister’s announced public service restructure devalues the $111 billion arts industry that is so important in the lives of everyday Australians. It is the arts that tells their stories, through music, theatre, dance and the myriad of performing artforms, and connects Australians with other cultures, both past and present, deepening understanding and creativity. These are essential attributes for today’s Australia, building a better future in education, social cohesion and national identity.
