Scenic Arts Supervisor
Opera Australia is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated person to fill this key position in its manufacturing workshops at Surry Hills, Sydney.
Opera Australia is dedicated to enriching Australia’s cultural life with exceptional opera that excites audiences and sustains and develops the art form. It is Australia’s largest and busiest performing arts organization, with over 600 opera performances a year.
The position is responsible for producing artwork and faux finishes in totality for all scenic & prop materials inclusive of the Company’s productions and performances. The role covers the overall operations of the scenic art department, including working with Designers to realize their concepts, costing their achievement and directing a small team of scenic artists, as well as being a highly skilled artist in their own right.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong administrative and production/project management experience with highly sophisticated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Fundamental to success in the role will be extensive high level experience in theatrical painting and scenic treatments, comprehensive knowledge of art and stage crafts, the ability to interpret set and model designs, the ability to lead, motivate and supervise a small team of painters, the ability to work to deadlines with flexibility in their approach, committed and diligence, together with a passion and enthusiasm for Opera Australia, its work, aspirations and values.
This is a full-time, permanent position which may involve light travel to Melbourne and other tour venues as required.
