Opera Australia is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated person to fill this key position in its manufacturing workshops at Surry Hills, Sydney.

This position is responsible for the totality of all costuming inclusive but not limited to all clothes, fabrics, wigs, make up elements of the Company's productions and performances. The role covers the overall operation of the Wardrobe/Wig Manufacturing Department, including the prompt budgetary estimates, costume making from the designers' concepts within the time and budget allocated, for new productions and revival of existing repertoire, as well as for special events and other non-repertoire activities as required and directed.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong managerial and administrative experience with highly sophisticated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Fundamental to success in the role will be but not limited to extensive and detailed knowledge of theatrical costume design, construction, materials and use, essential understanding of theatrical make up principles and practice, well-developed financial management skills, including budget management skills, analysis and reporting skills, the creative flair to understand, support and, where appropriate, enhance the work of designers, with an eye for detail and fine nuances, the ability to work to deadlines with flexibility in their approach, committed and diligence, together with a passion and enthusiasm for Opera Australia, its work, aspirations and values.

This is a full-time, permanent position which may involve light travel to Melbourne and other tour venues as required.
