Victoria Opera has opened applications for their CEO role.
Victorian Opera’s engagement with performers, audiences, schools, local communities and other arts companies is adventurous and bold. During the 2018 season,
Victorian Opera presented state-of-the-art tactile tours, rarely heard masterpieces, core operatic repertoire and new Australian works. Established
and emerging Australian and international artists performed to over 20,000 audience members in leading Melbourne venues, regional Victoria and Tasmania.
Victorian Opera is funded by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and from 2019, also by the Australian Government through the Australia Council’s Major Performing Arts Board.
Victorian Opera’s next CEO will lead a high-performing team, be a proven leader who loves the arts, and will have outstanding communication skills together with the ability to energise and direct a highly consultative company to which all members – musicians, performers, staff and directors – bring passionate commitment.
Reporting to the Board, the CEO, in partnership with Dr Richard Mills AM, Artistic Director, will ensure Victorian Opera’s ongoing artistic and financial success.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Demonstrated success leading an arts, similar not-for-profit, or community-focused organisation
- Well-rounded senior executive level skills including sound financial management experience
- An appreciation for and understanding of the full scope of an arts business
- The ability to work collaboratively with an artistic director and a small team
- Working with a board.
The position is based in Melbourne and may involve some domestic and international travel.
