SDC regional workshops hit the road

Over the last 3 years, over 5000 students have participated in a workshop in their town. 2018 is set to be the largest tour yet. Reaching 11 cities and towns in Darwin, Bunbury, Mandurah, Perth, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Bathurst, Orange and Newcastle.

Workshops begin with a warm up contemporary class, then students learn a section ofab [Intra] and are taken through a creative task exploring composition and how to create unique choreography. Universal skills such as team building and problem solving are explored but workshops are always focused on creativity and enjoyment first and foremost.

The teaching artists create a fun, safe and relaxed environment for all students regardless of their dance background so they can fully and comfortably express themselves.

Workshops are delivered for Primary and Secondary schools, along with local community and dance groups.

‘’Life changing. It was really great. Good experience to step out of my comfort zone and try something different.’’

- Year 9 student, The Essington International School, Darwin
