Three of Australia’s renowned performing arts companies – Sydney Dance Company, Circus Oz and Sydney Theatre Company - have concurrent seasons and tours in the United States, showcasing Australian culture, ideas and talent on the global stage.
Sydney Dance Company tours to New York, Boston, Swarthmore and Amherst from 24 February to 12 March with their trilogyFrame of Mind, Raw Models andWildebeest. Last year, the company presented 78 performances of the triple bill at 19 venues across Australia featuring the work of choreographic talents, Rafael Bonachela, Jacopo Godani and Gabrielle Nankivell. Each choreographer carves their own unique style, pushing at the possibilities of movement with acclaimed, innovative pieces.
Last year, Circus Oz premiered their critically acclaimedTWENTYSIXTEENin Melbourne before touring nationally. Now, presenting asStraight Up, the company tours through February and March to Pennsylvania, Virginia, Arkansas and Iowa. Audiences will be introduced to the uniquely turbo charged performers typical of Circus Oz displaying new skills and wizardry including the flying trapeze, the Chinese pole and a new group juggling act featuring 21 clubs ducking and weaving from acrobat to acrobat.
Meanwhile, Sydney Theatre Company continues its acclaimed Broadway season of Chekov’sThe Present starring Cate Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh at the Barrymore Theatre. In 2015 more than 40,000 Australians saw Andrew Upton’s adaptation of Chekov’s first play. The full original Australian cast opened in New York with previews from 17 December last year with the production running until 19 March.
