The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has secured a prestigious international TV distribution agreement with UNITEL, a world leading producer and distributor of classical music for TV, DVD & Blu-ray, cinema and new media.

“UNITEL is delighted to welcome the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as the first Australian orchestra to join our catalogue of the world’s great orchestras. This agreement is a mark of the quality of the MSO’s artistic output and we know that its performances will be applauded by viewers throughout Europe, America and Asia,” said Ernst Buchrucker, UNITEL Managing Director.

“MSO is proud to have achieved this significant milestone for Australia. Our mission is to inspire and engage audiences worldwide and we are very pleased that our concerts will now be available to music lovers throughout Europe, America and Asia.” said Sophie Galaise, Managing Director, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

The MSO is the only Australian orchestra to be included in UNITEL’s highly selective stable of the world’s great cultural institutions, artists, festivals and orchestras that includes the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw, Orchestre de Paris and Statskapelle Dresden.

Australian Minister for the Arts, Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield welcomes the news saying “UNITEL is home to some of the finest collections of classical music in the world and is a natural fit for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which is one of Australia’s arts leaders. Through this partnership, international audiences will be able to enjoy the MSO, putting a spotlight on Australia’s significant cultural credentials.”

From 2019, a selection MSO concerts each year will be distributed via UNITEL to media outlets throughout Europe, America and Asia. The agreement – which accommodates the MSO’s existing distribution agreement in Australia and New Zealand with Foxtel Arts and the ABC – is for an initial 10 year period (2019-2029).
