Bell Shakespeare, who know the highways and byways of regional Australia well, begin their extensive annual tour, taking Julius Caesar to 28 towns around Australia, across seven states and territories including metro and regional centres in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

One of the world’s greatest bel canto singers, Korean born Sumi Jo, partnered by Argentinian José Carbó, will join the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for a night of exquisite romantic song in a program of opera, tango and traditional Korean folk songs, presented in association with State Opera South Australia.

Lars Von Trier’s cinematic masterpiece Melancholia is reimagined by ground-breaking playwright Declan Greene and directed by Matthew Lutton, who team up with some of Australia’s finest actors including Eryn Jean Norvill, Leeanna Walsman and Maude Davey at Malthouse.

In Brisbane, Queensland Ballet’s Synergy shines a light on the company’s pre-professional dancers and choreographers, alongside a series of public masterclasses, showcasing the opportunities that the company offers to emerging talent in dance.

As always the country’s ensembles will deliver beautiful orchestral music and striking opera to warm the darkest of winter nights. Some of the highlights are listed below.
