Government takes a new broom to the NFP sector

As the Federal Government nears the end of its consultation process with the not-for-profit sector, AMPAG has continued to advocate for less red tape and simplified compliance for its member companies.

In readiness for the start of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission in July this year, the government is fine tuning its draft ACNC legislation.

In the past week, AMPAG has submitted two more responses to government reviews—one to the Review into NFP governance arrangements, and one to the ACNC Bill’s exposure draft.AMPAG has also called for the arts to be represented on the ACNC’s Advisory Board. The arts continues to battle for recognition, despite the fact that:

  • ‘culture and recreation’ organisations account for 20.1 per cent of all not-for-profit organisations (second behind religious organisations)
  • the live entertainment industry is worth over $1 billion a year
  • attendance at performing arts venues and events (2005–06) of 15.2 million.
AMPAG invites readers to view its submissions here.
